It was about 11:00am.  I had been hunting all morning. We had just moved into a new area and parked the vehicle. I walked up a cutline to bugle for elk while my friend stayed in the van to relax for a little bit. I called on and off for about a half an hour or so with no response. At this point i noticed how quiet it was, no birds chirping, no squirells. But i figured it was because the wind was picking up. I walked back to the vehicle, and put my gear back in. And then went to go to relieve myself. As i was heading back to the vehicle a rock hit a tree about 5 feet from me. with how hard the rock hit the tree and the noise it made, im guessing it was thrown with a fair amount of force. The pine trees up this ridge were very thick. So seeing what threw the rock was not possible. Could not find the rock that was thrown. Hung around the area for a another 10 mins to see if what threw the rock would appear or do it again. Finally ended up leaving as my friend was growing impatient and wanted to keep hunting.
