Okay. I have only told this story to my family and no one else, up until now.
I am a husband, father, and professional and am 46 years old. I saw your post on alberta outdoorsman today and did not want to respond there. i believe you have a good start on this site and support your efforts.
It was November ’97. I was hunting alone white tailed deer in central/west Alberta southwest of Tomahawk (look at the region just west of there as it is barren west of lodgepole). It was cold, very cold, probably about -15C and there was about 2-3 feet of fresh snow on the ground.
I was on a back road between two wheat fields and had finished my hunt around 4pm or so as it was getting dark and I was cold. I walked back to my pathfinder and got into it only to realize that the back road I had taken to my parking spot when I looked up was covered in snow. I got in and popped it into low 4×4 and started to move up the road which was really narrow with tress scattered on either side. About 1/2 way up I got stuck. I then got out of the vehicle and assessed the situation. I remember thinking I should just turn the vehcle off and think about my situation. So, I got out and had a smoke (I have long since quit) and leaned against the hood looking west out to the wheat field.
All of a sudden without warning at about 500 yards across the field I saw this huge black thing appear from the woods. I thought it was a grizzley bear so I quickly opened the door and grabbed my 30-06 and returned to the same place.
What I will next explain to this day does not make any sense but it IS what I saw and this is factual. This black object started to run in a huge stride across the field perpendicular to my position on TWO LEGS! I started to sweat and actually panic a bit because my brain could not quite comprehend what I was seeing. I then pulled my scope up and through it and despite some some nervous jitters managed to hold steady for a split second to watch this very large man-like thing running or more like galloping in huge strides across the field. I remember thinking to myself that it was not wearing clothes and it is soooo cold. I watched it for about 5 seconds and then i watched it without my scope run into the trees on the other side of the field. I got into my truck and actually started to shake. I red-lined it all the way up the hill-the end.
My family knows of this story and of course belives me but this is the first I have actually expressed it. I thought I should, just in case something ever did happen, convey it to a third party.
