Campers find footprints near Grande Prairie
LOCATION DETAILS: Coming out of Grande Prairie going west on highway 43 turn right after Hythe Motor Speedway “you’ll see the Spring Lake Road sign”. From then you can follow the Spring Lake signs. Go past about 20 km to the BA road and follow that to the creek, and head west, in to the Creek Bank.
NEAREST TOWN: Grande Prairie
NEAREST ROAD: East off of Spring Lake Road on the BA Road.
OBSERVED: We were walking by the creek behind our cabin, just shooting stuff with our .22 cal. rifles when we came along some unusual tracks in the snow. Snow was about 10″ deep. They were about 13 inches long and 6 inches wide. They were offset like a humans tracks would be but the bounds between the tracks were irregularly long. I myself could not even jump from one track to another.
ALSO NOTICED: Heard storys from other hunters of sightings in area.
OTHER WITNESSES: There were two of us.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: Mid day, clear blue sky, 0 to – 5 centigrade.
ENVIRONMENT: It’s in the Saddle Hills. Mostly poplar mixed with plenty of spruce and pine. The tracks where found within 100 yards of creek. Plenty of spruce around area.
Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Stan Courtney:
I spoke with the witness by phone.
He stated that the footprints were thirteen inches long and six inches wide. He said that the animal was definately bipedal and he could not leap from step to step.
